(2019) Situating sustainable development within secondary chemistry education via systems thinking: a depth study approach

A teacher action research project is presented where a systems thinking approach was implemented into a Depth Study for students in secondary chemistry. After learning about the concept of systems thinking, system maps, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, students created system maps for specific chemical processes. This article gives secondary teachers tools to implement systems thinking in their classrooms without requiring additional time or resources.
