From 2000-2020, over 260 IUPAC projects were connected to one or more of the 17 goals and more specifically to the underlying targets. All projects are inherently based on Goal 17: “strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development”. From there many different UN SDGs are addressed through the variety of divisions and committees within IUPAC. This includes diversity and equity efforts.Plans include: (a) organization of a Focus Session in the “Chemistry Related to Sustainability” themed area at the 49th IUPAC World Chemistry Congress in The Hague, The Netherlands, 20-25 August 2023; (b) representing IUPAC/ICGCSD during the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (IYBSSD) through regular postings that connect the chemistry and IUPAC activities to individual UN SDGs; and (c) to modify the IUPAC project proposal form and webpages to highlight associated UN SDGs, if appropriate.
