This article works to refine what systems thinking can and should be in chemistry education by evaluating and revising the characteristics of systems thinking as defined in the chEMIST table. Using thematic analysis, this article concludes that while most of the characteristics are essential to properly define systems thinking, many can be modified for clarity and applicability.
